The Green Mill is a 100-year-old club that still has the same vibe as its Prohibition heyday. Grab a seat at the end of the bar – that’s where gangster Al Capone sat, take in the latest jazz band from center stage as some of the world’s top players have made their way through the Green Mill. 

Despite it’s rich history, modern life is really perfected here today. Uptown is one of the best places to live in Illinois for younger people, who will likely find it easy to rent an apartment or find a home to buy. It has a dense urban feel and offers many bars, restaurants, coffee shops, and parks. Young professionals form a large part of Uptown’s population and residents tend to be liberal.

In March 2022, Uptown home prices went up 4.0% over last year and the median list price of homes in Uptown, Chicago was $274,900 in March 2022, compared to $199,500 in 2021. In the local real estate market in March 2022, there were far more buyers than available homes—a seller’s market. The average home sold in Uptown this March spent 44 days on the market compared to 56 days last year. The median price per square foot of homes in Uptown, Chicago was 223 in March 2022, an increase from 208 in 2021.
